Valeree Catangay

Long Beach, CA

Advocating for a more inclusive environmental movement

Valeree is a 21 year old from Long Beach, California who co-founded the Environmentalists of Color Collective at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Her work with the Collective challenges mainstream environmentalism to include the narratives of communities and people of color.

Valeree is committed to cultivating dialogues of environmental justice and environmental racism issues at her campus and community. She co-led and co-organized a Climate Justice Forum for the UCLA community and general public, a large event which marked the beginning of the Environmentalists of Color Collective’s work. Valeree is also a Carbon Neutrality Initiative Fellow for the University of California, using visual communications to engage students in the UC system-wide goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2025. Now a senior at UCLA, she strives to amplify values of sustainability and environmental justice within corporate systems.
